Holiday in Rabac - holiday by the sea
When the first excursionists and travel writers arrived in Rabac, in the middle of the 19th century, it was a small fishing village next to Labin, and what attracted them was the pleasant climate, untouched nature, a long pebble beach, and a view of the Kvarner islands. Since then, Rabac has gone on a path that has slowly but surely turned into a modern tourist center with as many as fifteen hotels and apartment complexes. Its characteristics have remained the same, a long, clean beach in front of a wooded hill, all in an area that is small enough to walk around and large enough to offer guests a variety of interesting activities and places to enjoy. One of the advantages of Rabac is its proximity to Labin, a town known for its mining history but also art and culture. During the Labin Art Republic festival, the whole city is full of performances, concerts, exhibitions, plays, and street art events.
The Battiala-Lazzarini Palace - Labin *
Battiala-Lazzarini Palace is one of the most beautiful buildings in the old town of Labin. It was built at the end of the 17th century, and from 1960 the Labina National Museum has been operating here. The pearl of the Labina National Museum is a replica of a mining shaft, which is worth seeing. A visit to this museum is an essential part of a visit to Labin.
Gastronomy *
The crown of a good vacation is good food and drink. Rabac tourism owes its name to excellent hotel staff, chefs and gastronomic delights based on the food of this region. Delicious fish, lobsters, shrimps, clams and other seafood are typical of this region, as well as country cuisine, where dishes made from homemade dough with various meat sauces prevail.
Dubrova Cultural Park *
Since 1970, the Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium has been organized every year in August and September. Today, this park is the site of a permanent exhibition of works from the sculptor's meetings. It is definitely worth visiting the interesting park sculptures and interdisciplinary projects of this protected area.
Labin
The medieval town of Labin is situated on the hill above Rabac. Its old name of Albona was first mentioned in 285 AD. The birthplace of Matthias Flacius Illyricus, the reformer and collaborator of Martin Luther, it is a cultural and administrative center today. The rich cultural and architectural heritage of Labin is enlivened by number of art ateliers and by the bustling youth gathering in the coffee bars scattered around the old town. The Sculpture Park in nearby Dubrova features over 70 forma viva stone sculptures.
After a walk through the narrow streets of the Old Town, pay a visit to the Town Museum with its archaeological and unique in this part of Europe, a miniature coal mine. Have a look at the Memorial collection of Matthias Flacius Illyricus, peek into the art ateliers, enjoy the view of Rabac and Cres island from the Fortica or pop into the small, elegant shops and take refreshments on one of the terraces of the local coffee bars. Whether to do business or just to have a chat, these are the places where everyone meets
